Dr. Watson came to our campus with wisdom gained from working with and observing writing centers at other universities she has attended. Her vision and hard work helped the Center for Writing Excellence grow from a small organization to an established and ever-growing UWEC staple, equipped with the skills to succeed in the future. She organized a system of leadership and cultivated an understanding of writing center Theory that has been shared with writing assistants.
She has also spearheaded the development of the first year composition and rhetoric program, the Blugold Seminar, in order to make the class more applicable and beneficial not only for students as they entered their academic careers, but more manageable for instructors as well. It was through her constant effort that class sizes remained small, creating more opportunities for students to learn and more freedom for instructors. She says that her ideas would gain no success if it were not for the hard work and support from her colleagues.
Please join the English Department as we thank Dr. Watson for her hard work and wish her all the best next year at UW-Milwaukee.
